Ok, since the Pioneer is not in stock anytime soon, going with the Alpine CDE-W235BT, better brand and UI I think. Hurray for freelance paychecks!

Ive always wanted to make a car pc, because a tablet needs an amplifier with its own master volume control to go with it and probably a crossover for multiple channel extraction. And preferably the entire time, the audio signal be kept digital. If i could incorporate all that into one pc, with a HD touch screen, wifi and gps cards, and load it with Android...now that would be an excellent HU

I didnt think about that for the tablet idea. Over the summer my cousin and I talked about purchasing a Raspberry Pi board (http://www.raspberrypi.org/) which essentially is a linux based board with all the features we would need and it is the size of a credit card. We just never got around to getting one. Might have to look into taking up that project again. Thanks for the reminder.

I read it online at one point but never did it. mmm it has to be a correctly sized image and file format i believe, then you just load it onto the root folder of a flash drive (has to be compatible with the kenwood HU though since it doesnt have PnP drivers, so not all drives will work). I dont remember the rest, but it is any easy google search with your HU model number, overall it takes 5 minutes tops. I have also thought of doing this. I didnt think about that for the tablet idea. Thanks for the reminder. yeah I've seen a few double din HU made in Asia that are android or ubuntu, but I didnt like the integration, the display aesthetics (or ancient OS version), and the fact that the part quality might actually be poor. I'm just waiting for a tablet (android or windows) that has usb DAC or preamp output, and still be able to control the master volume of its attached amplifier from the touch screen interface. If you do start that project, definitely let us know! I'd certainly like to see how you'd do it

I dont know if it comes with a wiring harness, but you def should get one if you can. allows easy connection of aftermarket HU wires to OEM harness. makes it a breeze in installation too since you dont have to connect wires in such a crammed space. i believe the harnesses are these; mine ended up coming free when I bought my first HU, when i returned it since it didnt fit, they didnt ask for them back haha www.amazon.com/Metra-70-7552-Wiring-Harness-Nissan/dp/B000VXED54www.amazon.com/Metra-40-NI12-Nissan-Antenna-Adapter/dp/B000PANZ7U

HAha! I just saw this thread and realized UnderscoreHero had put up something about the app radio from crutchfield. I recently purchased it and am waiting for shipment. Its incredibly affordable and all I really need is a clean looking system with a usb and everything else are just extras

Got the Pioneer FH-X700BT, works just like I need it, Bluetooth audio works really well. Skips songs using spotify. Button and display lights are adjustable, looks real nice at night. Out of the Box: After install daytime: After light adjust nighttime: Head unit costs $150.
